The vignette is a lost style of writing that seeks to capture a “snapshot” of a moment. It was known in decades past as the sketch story. These pieces were often published in magazines and newspapers to show exotic locale to their readership, while writers from Faulkner to Dickens got their start creating sketches. Now as a travel writer in the 21st century, I will use this style to give readers the impression of this places I’ve visited in the hopes that a particular moment in time may cause them to find the inspiration to also travel to this locations.
